Digg!

Party Games - the best way to entertain drunks?

I have often wondered in social gatherings, what is the best way to break the ice with people you've never met before? Poor attempts at humour? Grinning at them like you want to eat their face? Talking about the finer points of weather?

Social Virgins

Trip and I went down to my old home town of Worksop, where we were invited to a freinds BBQ. Sweet! Free booze, free food and music so loud that it would make the empty chair next to me bleed. However it turned out, that there was around 10 people at this party who did'nt really know each other apart from through the host. There were such awkward silences at times that it you could hear people thinking, oh god please let someone do something remotely interesting before I tear off the hosts arm's and beat him with the soggy end.

A Geeky Saviour!

Luckily I was prepare for such an eventuality and brought with me my trusty PS2 with Guitar Hero I, II , Buzz Big Quiz and the newly released Buzz Mega quiz. Not too mention 2 litres of vodka and enough other spirits to make a bargain booze look like a Alcoholics Anonymous.

Now, being a bit of a geek, I didn't know how well this would go down with the "cool" people, you know the types, ones that spend half their lives showing up in the latest designer gear and beating people like me up - well not like me, im a big scary hairy geek who will sit on you if you say anything bad about star trek ;) but you get thedrift.

To my amazement, everybody took to it as a brilliant idea. After a few short moments of setting up we were playing head to heads and co-op on guitar hero, swearing at random mistakes and laughing at the poses people were making.

Dumb luck... or something?

After that we played my new purchase of Buzz Mega quiz, which is up to an 8 player game, perfect for this size of party. Testing general knowledge, random snippets of information, to the down right simple questions of "what colour is a red fire truck?".... I got that question wrong... :(

By this point the alcohol was in full flow and we didnt even notice Trips lack of culinery skills as he pretty much cremated all the food, you wouldn't die if you ate the food certainly, but you could bludgeon someone to death with the drumsticks. GG Trip :D

Conclusion

So from personal experience, these so called "Party Games" really do work at making new friends, and more importantly, making new enemies >E
