Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass FAQ
The nice chaps over at UGO have posted an interesting FAQ on this very cool looking game, here's a bit of info!
Forget about the fact that Phantom Hourglass for the Nintendo DS was supposed to have been out months ago. The past is just that; we need to look to the future. Lucky Japanese fans will receive the game in late-June, with a 2007 holiday season release to follow for the rest of the world. The mere fact that this is a Zelda game is really all you need to know.
But wait! There's more! The game will be played from a top-down 2D perspective, though the environments and characters are all modeled to appear three-dimensional. It will feature a cel-shaded look, similar to what we saw in Wind Waker on the GameCube. The entire game will apparently be controlled using the stylus and touch screen. General exploration, which is the game's dominant form of play, uses the previously mentioned 2D perspective. There will also be a return to the open seas, a la Wind Waker, though courses are plotted beforehand and a steam engine powers your boat. These boat rides appear to play out as 3D "on-rails" sequences in which you use your vessel's cannon to keep oncoming enemies at bay. The game also significantly changes the standard Zelda formula in that there will be just one dungeon which you will slowly gain more access to as you progress through the story. Don't worry about any of that for now though. Zelda is coming to the DS. Be happy.
