Mikey's Review
I dare say one of the best strategic RPGs on the PS2, oh heck, *any* console. I have to admit I love this game to bits which is why I just have to review it, even though its old, even though its quirky and even though its very geeky!
This will not be a long review, it doesn't need to be, the game sells itself in all aspects. Although its not the best looking game, not the best sounding game and has a strange story but but but, its *just* perfect! As they say on Top Gear, it has that X-Factor...
If you have played the original Disgaea then there is no question you will love this game, it builds on everything in the first one and expands in all the aspects you really wanted the first one to have!
If you have not played the first one then let me explain how this goes.
Story is swiped from Wiki, it's not that important really...
Fifteen years ago, a powerful Overlord by the name of Zenon appeared on Veldime and cursed its human population. Since then, all its inhabitants became demons and were to remain that way if the curse was not broken. However, a young man named Adell was the only human unaffected by the curse. Wanting to save his family and return them back to their true form, Adell set out to defeat Zenon and break his curse.
There is a lot more on Wikipedia about this game, for reference!

What is important is the game play, this is a very in-depth strategic RPG and it's turn based meaning you can work out your moves then attack with each of your characters, then wait and get attacked, and so on until the level ends.
I just love this style of play, I love levelling up characters and I love having lots of characters to choose from, though of course its lovely to have one 'special' one you can get strong and help out the rest!
You can steal equipment, go into the equipment and level it up by fighting through 100 levels, capture enemy monsters, stack attack, combo attack, learn all sorts of special moves depending on your character class or weapon. The permutation's are just endless and this is a game I easily spent over 300 hours messing around with. Mostly maxing out stats, reincarnating which means returning to level 1 with a certain amount of your stats intact, basically meaning you can have an infinitely strong character... It's just amazing what you can do to this game.

The story IS funny, I will give it that, the voice acting and the subject matter are laced with dark humour which is perfect really. The story also loops when it finishes, giving you a change to play through again and get another of one of the many different ending.
All in all, if you like an RPG that is funny and lets you level up infinitely and not really get bored, offering enemies of equalling abilities to your level then this game is for you! don't just think of it as a 'cute' Japanese game, this is a fully fledged RPG of monstrous proportions.
