First heard about God Of War through trips ranting about good last gen ps2 games. As trip usually doesnt know what hes talking about I ignored him ;) But I have to admit, hes right on the money with this.

This game is cross between Devil May Cry and Prince of Persia, and being a fan of both these series I was instantly hooked. The gameplay is very fluid and graphically amazing to the point of I though I was playing a xbox 360 release title.

If you like beating mosters up-side the head with an flurry of swords, flinging them into the air and impailing them with there own weapons, this game is for you :p

Well my view of this game is rather unique as I have not played it at all! BUT I have sat through hours and hours of the lads playing it and here are my impressions:

It's easy to see why this game is supposed to be good... For a start there are the graphics, they are just awesome and show you what the PS2 can still do, I was very impressed, even more impressed when I was told that God Of War II was out, well wow, that must be even more impressive! But back to *this* game ahem...

As far as I can see its just a straght beat the crap out of all the enemies with some puzzles thrown in, its very like Devil May Cry and the later Prince of Persia games. DMC because its just soooo bloody and fast and it just *looks* like DMC and it reminds me of PoP with all the jumping and the camera angles and it just has the crispness that the PoP games seem to exude.

As far as the story goes, well you have lost me there... It seems to be spartan based and you are doing something like getting Pandora's Box to do something with it! I don't think its that important, the means to an end if you will, gotta fight about something?

The game seems well powered up, you collect red orb things and basically you can spend them getting upgrades to weapons, magics and such. Basically it means you kick more ass, as it should be!

So all in all a good game, though I hear groans of frustration with the lack of direction in the game, some puzzles and waypoints being very clear and some being just damn cryptic... Shouting and gamefaqs.com, a wonderful combination that seems to visit this house more often than not.

To sum up... Buy this game if you like voilence and you want to see how good the PS2 has got at the end of its life. Now GO spartan!
